One of the new design variants involves images on the face of the banknotes of six famous Europeans.
The design of euro banknotes has not changed from the moment of cash circulation in 2022 / photo UNIANThe European Central Bank plans to change the design of euro banknotes – for the first time since the introduction of cash 23 years ago. According to Independent, the change in design aims to make banknotes more attractive and recognizable. They currently depict nameless bridges and windows.It is noted that the ECB is now looking for a new design for banknotes, there are two options – European culture or a combination of rivers, birds and European institutions.
In the first case, the Famous Europeans will be depicted on the front sides of six banknotes denominations. In the order of rising banknotes, it is: Greek Opera Singer Maria Callas, German composer Ludwig van Bethoven, Polish-French scientist Maria Curie, Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes, Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci and Austrian activist.
At the same time, the publication notes, these names offered by a group of independent experts and then elected ECB can cause disputes as they represent only six of the 20 eurozone countries.
The reverse of the banknotes will depict cultural events or objects such as a song festival or library.
At the same time, birds and rivers will be depicted on the front of the banknotes on the front of the banknotes, and European institutions, including the Central Bank, will be depicted on the reverse.
The ECB will open a competition for banknotes this year and make a choice in 2026, although new banknotes will only go into circulation in a few years.
Euro – newsEarlier, UNIAN said that the European Central Bank refused to issue a banknote of € 500 back in 2019. The ECB explained their decision by the fact that the banknote was often used by fraudsters, and in trade operations it was rarely used.
At the same time, banknotes of 500 euros remain a valid and legitimate means.
