“Public blockchains, like Ethereum, are constantly faced with the problem of combining invariance and decentralization with requirements for the protection of personal data. Modular architecture with additional privacy technologies offers a way to integrate the GDPR principles into the protocol itself, ”said the proposal and a participant of the Euhenio Redzhianinini community.
In his opinion, moving personal data to the periphery – in the wallet and dapps -with the use of offchin-storage facilities without metadata and cryptographic separation of roles will focus responsibility for processing on a limited circle of entities. At the same time, other members of the network will only perform performers or will fall out of the GDPR influence at all.

The key goal is to convey control over information applications who decide whether to process personal data. In this case, low -level infrastructure – execution and consensus – will only work with anonymous or at least pseudonym data.
“Personal data should be converted or abstracted before they fall to the level of blockchain, and even more so to spread due to consensus,” Redzhianini stressed.
In his opinion, the transition of Ethereum to a modular architecture creates the conditions for integration of various technologies of confidentiality protection (PET) corresponding to GDPR.

Redzhianini also listed already available or planned tools that will contribute to the implementation of the approach. In particular, proto-Dancarding (EIP-4844) limits the life time of blocks with data to ~ 18 days, which helps to reduce storage load.
ZK-Snark technology will provide additional privacy by checking brief cryptographic evidence with validators.
Among the other PET, he mentioned completely homomorphic encryption, protected performance (TEE), multilateral calculations, separation of the roles of offers and builders, as well as the selective availability of data in pyrrh format.
