After recent presidential elections in the United States, a similar plebiscite in Belarus may seem a little boring to someone on January 26. There will be no planetary hype, which trembles from the strain of intrigue, the whistle of the crowd on the show of candidates and other elements of vague freedom of speech and the general democracy. It will be all your own, native and familiar. Briefly about – About the future elections of the head of the Republic of Belarus.
Four proven rivalsEarly vote has already begun on January 21 and It will last until 19:00 on January 25. The main voting day was scheduled for January 26, 2025, when the sites will be opened from 8:00 to 20:00.
Competition for 30 years by the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko (although recently it is otherwise not called self -proclaimed and not called) is four people – apparently reliable and verified. The applications of several opposition candidates of the CEC of Belarus rejected, which caused another criticism from the international community.
Also, shortly before the election day, the detention and arrests of political activists and journalists, who criticized the current authorities, was reported, which caused the concern of human rights organizations and added to them the unwillingness to come to Belarus as observers in the presidential election.
Verified rivals of the incumbent President is:
Oleg Gaidukevich -leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus, Member of the House of Representatives,
Anna Kanopatska – Independent candidate, businesswoman, former deputy of the House of Representatives,
Sergey Syrankov – First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus,
Alexander Khizhnyak – the leader of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice.
Canopatskaya is considered to be the most asposting in this rest of the trailers – at least she calls herself. She is Anatoly Trukhanovich’s daughter, the first dollar millionaire of Belarus, is flamboyant and not too restrained in statements. In the previous presidential election, she gained 1.68% of the vote and is unlikely to gain more.
Her election program is sharp as a bullet: it declares the transition of Belarus from the format of the presidential republic to the parliamentary, proposes to privatize state property and introduce the institute of private property on land, as well as to reduce the number of presidential terms and make it
Other candidates are not so bold. Liberal-Democrat Gaidukevich allowed himself to enhance the role of parliament in the country, but was frightened by his own courage and recalculated into the “parliamentary election reform”, which means that it is unclear.
If no candidate is more than 50% of the vote in this “difficult” competition, then there is nothing left to the Central Election Commission of Belarus, but to announce the second round of the election no later than February 9 this year.
But there is a suspicion that it will not come to this, because it is difficult to seriously consider the first Secretary of the Communist Party or businesswoman a serious alternative to the incumbent, be self-proclaimed. Which, in a wonderful coincidence, the week before the election, signed a decree on raising all labor pensions in the country by 10%.
However, without this, according to local polls, 82.5% of Belarus are ready to vote for Lukashenko.

Observers will come and will not comeThe country’s presidential elections occur against the backdrop of the political crisis, which began after the 2020 elections, which were accompanied by mass protests and charges of falsification. International observers have still criticized the election processes in Belarus due to lack of transparency and democracy. Therefore, for example, the Safety and Cooperation Organization in Europe (OSCE) has refused to direct its mission of observers to this election. They stated that it was too late to receive an invitation to this event from the Belarusian authorities – only ten days.
But, according to the CEC of Belarus, some international observers will be on the plebiscite. “More than 400 international observers from more than 40 countries have been accredited, including CIS countries, the European Union, Africa and Asia,” the election said.
And on Wednesday, January 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus declared gross intervention of the European Union in the Belarusian electoral campaign. EP deputies urged EU countries not to recognize the results of the presidential elections in Belarus, as well as to continue expanding sanctions against Minsk.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus has already made an emergency statement, calling the resolution “the most grossed interference with the electoral processes of a sovereign state … The resolution has nothing to do with the real state of affairs and is called to put pressure on the free expression of Belarusian citizens.”
Vote at home and without a blind in the cabinIt is already known that the 2025 elections in Belarus have officially banned photographs and shoot them on video. The corresponding inscription was applied to the document itself. Also, Belarusians will not be able to vote abroad, all emigrants are encouraged to come and vote at home. The official reason was called “lack of safety measures at sites and reducing the number of diploma employees”.
Slightly amazing Belarusians and observers by preliminary voting, the absence of blinds in the booths for voting. The CEC is convinced that the presence of curtains is in no way related to confidentiality and in general – it can even be dangerous in the conditions of rampant viral infections.
– All ballots have their unique numbers, and these numbers are affixed when issuing ballots. That is, if necessary, members of the commission can determine who voted for. In this case, the presence or absence of a curtain does not affect the implementation of the principle of mystery of voting, – Andrey Bilyakov, the head of the Center for Work with the Population and the Electoral Process of the Academy of Management under the President of the Republic of Belarus, explained.

If not – turn off the InternetOne of the discussed election topics among the people in Belarus was possible to turn off the Internet on the day of choice in. According to Belta portal, President Lukashenko has already reacted to the rumors.
– Now it is not necessary, there is no such need – Oleksandr Lukashenko told the correspondents of the publication.
At the same time, last year in November, the same Lukashenko mentioned that in August 2020, during the last elections, the Internet was turned off with his permission. At that time, he also said that if the events of 2020 repeat themselves, then we will turn off the Internet altogether.
Turn off was not turned off in the first days of preliminary voting, but there are already interruptions with the Internet in Belarus, and citizens cautiously assume that January 26 will be even worse.
Also in social networks, they write about forcing employees to vote for You-Know-Who, as well as the shockingly low turnout on the day of the preliminary voting – about 8%. Will such apathy of the population affect the ratings of the presidential candidates and what can we expect next Sunday? (Answer: no and nothing new is expected.)
