Polish President Andrzej Duda presented a copy of the flag of the uprising in 1863 during his farewell visit to Kiev during his farewell visit to Kiev. A Polish historian, former director of the Polish Institute in Kiev Robert Chizhevsky, announced this in his Facebook.

Under what was the flag of the rebels from the department of Edmund Ruzhytsky (commander of the rebel forces in Galicia and Volyn). The historian found the image of this flag a few years ago when he made an exhibition on the Ukrainian aspects of the January uprising.
-In the pre-war book, I then came across a black and white photo of the flag of Edmund Ruzhytsky’s department; On the one hand, there was a Polish eagle and the inscription in Polish, and on the other – the Kiev archangel Michael and the inscription in Ukrainian, – said Robert Chizhevsky.
The signature under the photos pointed to the Krakow Museum, later the flag was really found in Krakow and made two copies. The historian hopes that the flag will not be lost in the presidential gifts, will get to a Ukrainian museum or be transferred to a Ukrainian brigade.
According to Robert Chizhevsky, the January uprising of 1863 was the last attempt to restore the Commonwealth in its historical borders. Its most famous participant is Belarus Kastus Kalinovsky.
– Modern Lithuanian and Belarussian patriots consider the uprising in 1863, but in Ukraine it is still (according to Russian propaganda) is a “Polish uprising”. It was so, but it gradually changes… – he said.
The historian believes that the events of 1863 are ideal for the joint memory of Poland and Ukraine.
The January uprising is the noble uprising of 1863-1864 on the lands of the former Commonwealth. Together with the Poles, Lithuanians, Belarusians and Ukrainians took part in the uprising against the Russian Empire. The uprising was defeated.
