The Cypriot President, Nikos Christodoulidis, has officially assured that his country will focus on supporting Ukraine during its presidency of the Council of Europe, which will begin on January 1, 2026.

Cyprus intends to increase its support to Ukraine Nikos Christodoulidis emphasized that Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine clearly proved that the importance of strengthening the European security architecture, the EU’s defense readiness and its ability to protect its own citizens.
The Cypriot leader also publicly stated that in the coming months, aid to Ukraine will remain a priority task in the European Union, in particular thanks to the decisive position of his state.
Of course, it could not be otherwise, given that we, Cyprus, the Republic of Cyprus, have a direct idea of what aggression is, what occupation is, what violation of basic principles and rights is.

According to Nikos Christodoulidis, the presidency of his country in the European Union will also contribute to the rapid implementation of the “white paper” on the prospects of European defense and the corresponding “road map” to ensure the defense readiness of the EU until 2030.
