The past winter has become a test for Ukrainian energy, but we were ready and withstood it. Ukraine was with light and warmth, despite the apocalyptic forecasts of experts and analysts.

The shutdowns will last all winter, the Ukrainians will freeze in their homes, the light will not be 18-20 hours a day – these and similar statements have only sowed fear and panic among the population.

But energy is not predicted, they work. Despite the continuous energy terror on the part of Russia, which lasted all 2024 and has not subsided now, energy has done everything to make the Ukrainians at least its consequences.

2024 became the most difficult for Ukraine’s power system because of the record intensity of Russian blows. Last year, the enemy has inflicted 13 massive attacks, and since the beginning of 2025-four. In addition, the Russians beat daily on energy generation, networks, gas infrastructure, attack objects critical to NPPs, creating a threat to a nuclear catastrophe.

The tactics of Russian attacks have changed: combined blows now include winged and ballistic missiles, cassette ammunition. Since November 2024, shelling has intensified-during this time, Russia has released more than 900 missiles and drones through the energy system of Ukraine, which has caused the largest destruction in recent years.

In 2024, about 10 GW of Ukraine’s generating capacity was damaged, and now it was possible to restore half – 5 GW.

It was not possible without shutdowns during the winter. For some days of February, power was introduced for industry and business. The reason is the consequences of Russian attacks on energy objects.

The population had to introduce graphs in December, but only after large -scale attacks. On December 13, the biggest energy attack during the war took place – about 300 missiles and drones at the same time hit objects, causing significant damage. In three days, energy has been restored, and the restrictions have been removed.

Similarly, after a blow on Christmas, the shutdown lasted three days. Since the end of December, graphs have not been used for the population.

The stable winter was provided with large -scale preparation and repair campaign. All nine NPPs operated at full capacity – 7.8 GW, providing the country with electricity. Additionally distributed generation helped to maintain the energy supply of critical infrastructure.

Since December 2024, the maximum power for electricity imports from EU countries has been increased to 2.1 GW. Such support for European partners strengthened our power system during shelling.

Winter also managed to go with stable gas supply – the stop of transit of Russian gas and attack on infrastructure did not affect consumers.

Sustainable work of the power system of Ukraine provided the experience of specialists and efficient operation of air defense. I thank all the Ukrainians who consume electricity and trust energy.

Despite the stable passing of the heating season, the situation remains difficult because of the constant energy terror of our enemy. Therefore, the final results of the autumn and winter period 2024/2025 will be raised after its completion.
