Telegram malware scams targeting cryptocurrency investors have increased by 2,000% in the past two months. It was reported Scam Sniffer analysts.

Between November 2024 and January 2025, these attacks outnumbered traditional phishing attacks. Attackers actively use fake bots for verification, invitations to “exclusive” trading channels or participation in airdrops to lure their victims.

Scams often start with a fake verification that injects malicious code into the user’s system. This software modifies the clipboard, provides access to the crypto wallet, passwords and browser data, making the investor completely vulnerable to asset theft.

Malicious software for stealing cryptocurrencies was found in Telegram bots

According to Scam Sniffer, the increase in the number of such attacks is due to the fact that users have become more cautious about classic fraudulent schemes in the crypto industry. Criminals are adapting by looking for new ways to cheat.

As previously reported by Chainalysis, in 2024 losses from cryptocrimes will increase by 21%, reaching $2.2 billion. Users of DeFi services, who remain the main target of fraudsters, were the most affected.
