This year, the Humanoid work of Boston Dynamics will start a test work on the American Hyundai Metaplant car factory in Georgia. The machine will be attracted In the performance of complex physical tasks – in particular, sorting of auto parts, the transfer of heavy objects, as well as in moving a complex environment: the robot is able to run, crawl, jump and even do a flush.
This was stated by Senior Director of Robotics Research at Boston Dynamics Scott Kindersma. According to him, the main purpose of starting Atlas is to check the capabilities of work in real production.
“We want to protest how Atlas copes with the tasks that Hyundai plans to automate the years in the coming years,” the researcher explained.
Kindersma also emphasized the potential for integration of large language models (LLM) into work management. In his opinion, the combination of AI logic with physical execution gives a chance to radically change the idea of automation:
“We strive to combine the ability to think with abstract thinking with physical intelligence to make robots truly useful in the real world.”
Nevertheless, the expert notes that in the near future work-humanoids will not appear in the daily life of ordinary people-their use will be limited mainly by production processes through safety requirements.
“Why create extremely nimble humanoids? Most of the tasks we want to automate are difficult and grueling work that threaten human health. And it is here that work, like Atlas, can become indispensable, ”Kindersma stressed.
Recall that in April 2024, Boston Dynamics presented a new electric version of ATLAS, focused on commercial use.
