What should be at the beginning
The first paragraph should show your contribution:
• what results you brought to the company;
• how your actions helped to achieve the goals of the department;
why now is the logical time to discuss a promotion.

Example: Over the past six months, I implemented a project that increased sales by 15% and reduced costs by 10%. I want to discuss the possibility of revising the compensation to consolidate this result and move forward.”

A simple letter structure
1. First paragraph – value and results.
2. The second paragraph – specific facts and figures.
3. The third paragraph is your plans for the future, what else can you provide to the company.
4. The finale is a polite request to discuss a promotion.
What to avoid
• Comparison with colleagues: “Pete’s salary is higher.”
• Threat: “If you don’t give me a raise, I’ll leave.”
• General words without evidence: “I work a lot.”

Summary: The first paragraph is the business card of your letter. If it begins with complaints or pressure, the letter becomes invalid. If you start with the facts and benefits for the company, you have a chance to have an honest and respectful conversation.
