Sales of the iPhone 16 in Indonesia were halted at the end of October in response to Apple’s non-fulfillment of investment obligations.
In October, the Indonesian government banned the sale and use of the iPhone 16 because Apple failed to meet its investment obligations. One of the main conditions for lifting the ban is the company’s additional investment in local production. In addition, the iPhone must contain at least 40% of parts produced in Indonesia.
Reuters writes that Apple initially offered to invest $10 million, then increased the amount to $100 million, but even this seemed insufficient to the local authorities. Now Indonesia expects to receive a billion dollars from Apple.
The Indonesian government is said to be particularly interested in Apple establishing local manufacturing partnerships and sourcing components domestically. Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia with a population of almost 300 million people.
Earlier, for the same reason, as well as due to non-fulfillment of investment obligations, sales of Google Pixel 9 were banned in Indonesia.
The study showed that the iPhone is the least popular gift for the winter holidays. The Apple Watch smart watch became the clear leader, followed by tablets in second place.
Rumors almost a year before the announcement of the iPhone 17 indicate that the iPhone 2025 will be the most interesting series in the next couple of years. With the release of the iPhone 17, the cameras will be significantly updated, in particular the front camera, and the basic models will finally switch to 120-hertz screens. There is another reason to wait for the iPhone of 2025 – this is the mysterious iPhone Air.
