President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held another telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer. The main topic of discussion was the protection of the Ukrainian sky against the background of ongoing Russian attacks on civil and energy infrastructure. The head of state expressed hope that the ongoing discussions on strengthening air defense will soon be converted into concrete results that will allow to repel air attacks more effectively.

The leaders paid special attention to the critical situation in Ukraine’s energy system, where there is a power deficit due to damage and severe frosts. Zelensky thanked Starmer for London’s recent decision to allocate 20 million pounds for the repair of energy facilities, stressing that British aid is practical and timely. The parties also discussed the use of frozen Russian assets, in particular funds from the sale of Chelsea football club ($2.5 billion), for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
During the conversation, Zelensky informed Starmer about the results of the tripartite talks in Abu Dhabi with the participation of Ukraine, the USA and Russia. The President called these meetings constructive and noted that the number of problematic issues within the discussion of the “20-point peace plan” is gradually decreasing. He confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to continue the dialogue already this week, emphasizing the desire to achieve a just peace as soon as possible.
Britain remains one of Ukraine’s key partners within the framework of the “Centenary Partnership Agreement”, and this conversation was another stage of coordination of actions before the upcoming meeting of leaders at the highest level.
As a reminder, Ukraine ordered 18 more IRIS-T air defense systems from the German company Diehl Defense. Currently, the Ukrainian military already operates nine such installations and is interested in additional units.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin has practically exhausted the possibilities for providing new military aid to Ukraine, in particular regarding additional deliveries of Patriot air defense systems.
