Recently, a humanitarian crisis arose in Transnistria. Ukraine is ready to help, in particular, with coal, but there was no response.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated this in his evening address on January 12.
The head of state noted that this week he had a conversation with the President of Moldova, Maya Sandu. They discussed how to help Transnistria overcome the humanitarian crisis.
“We discussed how to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Transnistria. There, due to the deliberate actions of Russia, there is simply a vacuum of energy resources. People are suffering. And this is deliberately directed by Russia in order to spoil the public mood in Moldova before the elections. Ukraine can help with coal,” Zelenskyi said.
At the same time, the president noted that Ukraine has not yet seen a corresponding reaction from those who actually control the situation on the left bank of the Dniester – in Transnistria.
“If they play along with the Russians, it’s one thing, a completely different thing if they really want to help people in Transnistria. We are ready,” the head of state summed up.
It will be recalled that after the stoppage of Russian gas supplies to Transnistria on January 1, a serious energy crisis began in the region. In addition to the fact that a large part of the population lost gas, widespread power outages began, and the entire industrial sector stopped there from January 1.
Back in December, before the termination of the supply of Russian gas, the authorities of Moldova offered to buy European gas for Transnistria, and at their own expense. Tiraspol did not even respond to this proposal.
The Prime Minister of Moldova believes that the energy crisis was specially provoked by Russia in order to freeze the population, and then blame the Moldovan authorities and set voters to vote for pro-Russian political forces.
