The purpose of the law is to improve the legislation of Ukraine regarding the deprivation of state awards of persons convicted of serious or particularly serious crimes or criminal offenses against the foundations of national security of Ukraine, against peace, security of humanity and the international legal order, as well as persons who popularize or promote the aggressor state and its authorities, their representatives, or commit other actions aimed at creating a positive image of the aggressor state, justifying and recognizing the occupation of the territory of Ukraine as legitimate.
The document prepared for the second reading proposes to supplement the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and some other documents with relevant provisions to establish a new type of additional punishment – deprivation of a state award of Ukraine.
It is established that a person deprived of state awards of Ukraine and members of his family lose the right to all rights and privileges provided for persons awarded with such awards.
It is expected that the adoption of the law will contribute to the improvement of the state policy in the field of the protection of national security of Ukraine, the state sanctions policy, legal regulation of the grounds and procedure for the deprivation of state awards of Ukraine, as well as the impossibility of obtaining and using by persons who are deprived of state awards, benefits provided for awarded persons.
We will remind you that on August 20 of this year, the Verkhovna Rada voted in the first reading for the draft law on the deprivation of state awards for the popularization or propaganda of Putin’s aggressive Russia.
