On January 13, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with French leader Emmanuel Macron. In particular, it was about sending a foreign contingent to Ukraine.
Zelenskyi said this during the evening address.
“I spoke with the President of France today. Quite a long and detailed conversation. We discussed defense support – various forms, weapons packages for Ukraine. We discussed investments in the purchase of projectiles for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
The leaders agreed to work closely with key allies to achieve peace and develop effective security guarantees. The French initiative to deploy military contingents in Ukraine was discussed as one of these guarantees. Practical steps for its implementation, possible expansion and involvement of other countries in this process are considered.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine can think and work on Emmanuel Macron’s proposal regarding the deployment of foreign troops. The state needs security guarantees until there is an invitation to join NATO.
It will be recalled that French President Macron did not rule out that NATO could send troops to help Ukraine.
The possibility of sending ground troops of Western countries to Ukraine was discussed at a conference in Paris, French President Macron said, but those present did not reach a consensus on this issue. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz denied the possibility that the troops of European countries or NATO will be sent to help Ukraine.
