The idea of creating a 15 km buffer zone on both sides of the front line in Ukraine can be dangerous. In particular, this can lead to loss of control over cities.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference after a meeting of the Coalition of Decisive.
According to Zelensky, he heard the question of the demilitarized zone and the breeding of troops from different people, from different intelligence. However, he noted that no one officially offered Ukraine.
“Like the sappers: everyone is looking for some opportunities, which is still experiment with us,” Zelensky added.
At the same time, he noted that this idea is not very alive.
“It depends on the format of the monitoring. The question of the demilitarized zone is on both sides – and why 15? .. And from what line we will count, from the border from which contact line,” Zelensky said.
According to the President, there are many difficulties in this matter. He mentioned that rockets were flying from the territory of Belarus, and therefore it turns out that 15 km deep into the Belarusian border, according to the corresponding logic, also need to create a DMZ.
“In addition, the range of modern artillery and drones is significantly exceeding 15 km. Even if we talk about 15 kilometers, what will we do with the city of Kherson? This means that there will be no troops in Kherson. There will be no troops in Kherson – we will not have Kherson, ”Zelensky said.
He added that a similar situation in particular with Pokrovsk and other frontier cities.
“Illusions that CEASE-FIRE disorders (ceasefire,-ed.) There will be no illusions, they will be. But this is a very important step. If you agree to the buffer zone and go 15 kilometers, then cities such as Kherson, Kharkiv and Sumy, everyone will seem to have peace, and they will continue the war. Because artillery will fly to them. Therefore, it is premature to talk about it. The idea (regarding the breeding of troops – ed.) Is not alive today, ”the President summed up.
It should be reminded that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has declared American leader Donald Trump about Ukraine’s readiness for direct negotiations with Russia, if there is a ceasefire.
