President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to six military personnel and policemen. Five of them were awarded the highest state award posthumously. The relevant decrees are published on the official website of the head of state.
According to the published decrees, the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the “Golden Star” order was awarded to servicemen of the Armed Forces and employees of the National Police, who showed personal courage during the defense of Ukraine.
Lieutenant Colonel Leonid Shirpal was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in the conditions of active hostilities and died defending Ukrainian positions.
Mykola Hetmanov, a police major, was also awarded posthumously. The documents state that he showed courage and determination while performing official duties in the combat zone.
The title of Hero of Ukraine was posthumously awarded to Dmytro Agat’ev, a police captain. He died while performing security and law enforcement duties under martial law.
Another posthumous recipient was Kyrylo Zibrov, a police lieutenant. The presidential decree emphasized his personal contribution to the defense of the state and self-sacrifice during his service.
Also, the title of Hero of Ukraine was posthumously awarded to Colonel Vasyl Simushyn. He was awarded for his courage and dedication while performing combat missions.
Volodymyr Ovsienko, lieutenant colonel, was the only recipient who received the title of Hero of Ukraine for life. The presidential decree recognized his personal courage, professionalism and contribution to the defense of Ukraine.
In the text of the decrees, it is noted that all the awardees were awarded “for personal courage and heroism, shown in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and selfless service to the Ukrainian people.”
