President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed laws on another extension of martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine.

According to the documents that were officially returned to the Council with the signature of the head of state on January 26, 2026, the special legal regime will last another 90 days.

This decision was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on January 14, based on the relevant presidential decrees, marking the 18th extension of security measures since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Thus, martial law and mobilization processes will officially be in effect until 05:30 on May 4, 2026, which allows the defense forces to ensure the continuity of the country’s defense against Russian aggression.

Law No. 4757 on the extension of martial law enters into force immediately from the day of its publication in official publications. At the same time, Law No. 4758, which regulates general mobilization, will enter into force on February 3, 2026, when the previous similar act expires. Russia is counting on the exhaustion of Ukrainian mobilization resources and the weakening of the will to resist, but the legal consolidation of the stability of defense mechanisms is a necessary response to the protracted war and constant threats from the Russian Federation.

On January 18, 2026, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on the positive dynamics in the mobilization process, noting a significant improvement in the indicators of unit manning compared to mid-2025.

On January 15, the Verkhovna Rada failed to pass a law on the introduction of a 12-month deferment from mobilization for military contractors aged 18-25.
