President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the candidacy of Yury Cherevashenka for the post of commander of unmanned air defense systems.
This was reported in the Office of the President.
“The new leader faces many tasks that we approved at Stavka. In particular, this is the active introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles, namely interceptor drones, strengthening of our air defense system with the latest types of weapons,” the head of state said.
The decree on Cherevashenko’s appointment has already been signed by Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.
As told in the OP, Yuriy Cherevashenko participated in the creation of the first group of mobile air defense rapid response brigades. Recently, he has been engaged in interceptor drones, so in his new position, Cherevashenko should scale up the development of the unmanned component of the Air Force.
In the early 2010s, Cherevashenko was the chief of staff of a separate radio engineering battalion of the Rivne garrison. This unit was part of the 13th Army Corps, on the basis of which the Operational Command “North” appeared in 2013.
And on the eve of the full-scale Russian invasion, in the summer of 2021, he already had the rank of colonel and was the deputy of the air defense department of the Ground Forces Command.
Zelenskyi also said that Ukraine is launching a special program to protect frontline cities — Kherson in particular — from Russian drones. The program was developed by the Command of Unmanned Systems Forces, it is ready for implementation and has received support at the state level.
Commander of the Unmanned Systems Force (USF) Robert “Magyar” Brovdi has released an original video and recruitment appeal calling for civilians without combat experience to join the UFS.
