The head of state conveyed specific requests to the German leader regarding the supply of weapons, Politico reports.
According to the publication, during the negotiations in Brussels, the parties discussed the situation in Washington and US plans for further support to Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of strengthening the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian army, in particular strengthening air defense systems.
After the meeting, Mertz said that the German government is considering new proposals to help Ukraine, including the use of German technology to protect energy and water infrastructure from Russian attacks.
The parties do not disclose the details of the negotiations. It is currently unknown which systems or types of weapons might be included in a potential aid package.
The day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a meeting with the head of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, during which the leaders discussed key issues of support for Ukraine.
