In an evening video message, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Rustem Umyerov is at negotiations in Turkey. “Today, Rustem Umerov is at meetings in Turkey: Minister of Foreign Affairs, then – intelligence. We are trying very hard to resume exchanges in the new year, this is the key topic. We need assistance to return our Ukrainians home from Russian captivity. “Last year, the exchanges were active, but at the end they slowed down, now we need to resume,” Zelenskyy said.
The President added that the Secretary of the National Security Council is constantly in touch with the American team and partners in Europe. Ukraine is preparing the formats and details of important meetings: on January 3, the first meeting of national security advisers on peace will take place with the participation of 15 countries, the EU and NATO; On January 5, a meeting of the chiefs of the General Staff is scheduled to discuss security guarantees; January 6 — a meeting of the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing to Strengthen Support for Ukraine.
“The main thing is security guarantees for Ukraine. Politically everything is almost ready, and it is important to work out every detail of how the safeguards will work in the sky, on land, and at sea if we succeed in ending the war. And this is the key goal for all normal people,” Zelenskyi said.
The head of state thanked everyone who helps the country: “We are preparing now so that the meeting will be productive, and that there will be more support, and that there will be more political confidence in terms of guarantees and a peace agreement. Thank you to everyone who helps us.”
