The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, commented on the negotiations regarding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP), stressing that Kyiv will not agree to the operation of the plant under Russian control, as the occupiers want.

“Russians” want to keep the station. It is clear that we are against this. And we said that if this is the case, the station will not work,” the head of state said.
According to Zelenskyi, the American side offers a joint management format for the station. Kyiv’s position regarding this format is clear and simple: “Russian troops must withdraw from the station at a certain distance” and the zone must be demilitarized.
“If the Americans can take the station under their control, somehow demilitarize this zone, that is, the Russian troops must withdraw from the station to a certain distance, then there will be an opportunity to have access to the station in Ukraine,” the president explained.
After fulfilling these conditions, according to him, it will be possible to look for an opportunity “how to manage all this”. Currently, the issue of ZNPP remains one of the two key non-agreed positions in the negotiations; another position is the territory of Donetsk region.
During the press conference, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi also told how the United States currently sees the future of the Donetsk region within the framework of possible agreements regarding the peace plan.
The head of the IAEA explained what should happen to the ZNPP after the establishment of peace.
