President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered the preparation of sanctions in response to the disgraceful actions of the Georgian authorities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address on December 4.

Zelenskyi said that “the current government in Georgia is pushing the country into obvious dependence on Russia,” stressing that this problem does not concern only this state.

“It’s just shameful what things they are going to now against their own people. And when Moscow praises this government in Georgia, it clearly outlines who they are currently working for in Tbilisi and for whom they are dispersing protests. Definitely not for Georgia,” he added.

The head of state announced that Kyiv is preparing its “legal response” and is working with partners on specific actions.

“I instructed to prepare the corresponding sanctions decisions,” Zelensky clarified.

Earlier, the three Baltic states announced that they would introduce national sanctions against those “participating in the suppression of legitimate protests in Georgia.” Later, on December 2, a joint “black list” was published with the names of those who will be banned from entering Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. There are 11 names on this list, including the honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, four of his deputies, and five other high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Lithuania also declared that it is ready to provide asylum to the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, if the need arises.

Canada, following the example of the Baltic countries, will introduce sanctions against high-ranking officials of Georgia for dispersing actions of supporters of European integration.
