Today, on May 8, the Verkhovna Rada should ratify the US Agreement on minerals, which can open the way to long economic cooperation between the two countries. And every MP has to be aware of the weight of this step.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening address.
“Tomorrow the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should ratify the Economic Partnership Agreement with the United States. The agreement is written to meet the national interests of Ukraine. Safety and economy are always going side by side, ”Zelensky said.
He explained that this agreement would provide Ukraine with “decades of projected and tangible economic growth.”
“Strategic vision of America is to form new economic partnerships. This will work on the defense of Ukraine and our defense interaction. The strategic vision of Ukraine is to involve partners in real work here in Ukraine, to invest here and to develop production on our land. This is what we do, ”the head of state explained.
The President stressed that every deputy of the Verkhovna Rada should understand it and support the ratification of the US agreement.
“It is important that all deputies are aware of the weight of this agreement and support the prospects that the agreement opens,” Zelensky emphasized.
The agreement provides for the establishment of an investment fund. It will be sent to 50% of budget revenues from rent payments, the sale of special permits for intelligence and mining, as well as other forms of subsoil for use. The fossil agreement covers 57 types of minerals.
However, not all deputies of the Verkhovna Rada like this agreement. The deputies of the opposition, in particular from “European solidarity”, according to Zelensky, demanded additional explanations of the agreement and its connection with the achievement of peace.
The President noted that some parliamentarians do not want to vote for the agreement, even despite its importance for Ukraine’s security. He stated that the deputies who block the ratification of the US agreement “cannot play a double game.” He also emphasized that those who oppose important for the security of Ukraine should cancel visas.
Recall that Ukraine and the United States of America have signed an Economic Cooperation Agreement (“Subsoil Agreement”). The first Viceremier-Minister-Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko and US Department of Finance Scott Scott Bessent made their signatures.
On the eve of the signing of US Finance Minister Scott, Bessent stated that the Ukrainian side decided to amend the subsoil frame, which is why the document was at risk.
