President Volodymyr Zelenskyi updated the composition of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, introducing new heads of key ministries to it.

According to the decree No. 80/2026, which was published on January 26, 2026, the personnel of the NSDC included Denys Shmyhal and Mykhailo Fedorov. At the same time, the same decree removed Vasyl Malyuk from the NSDC, who resigned from the position of head of the Security Service of Ukraine at the beginning of January 2026.

Personnel changes took place in connection with the large-scale reformatting of the government, which began in mid-January: Denys Shmyhal, who previously headed the Ministry of Defense, was appointed as the first deputy prime minister – the minister of energy of Ukraine, and Mykhailo Fedorov moved from the Ministry of Statistics to the position of the minister of defense. The introduction of these officials to the National Security Council should strengthen coordination between the defense sector and the energy industry, which is under constant attacks by the Russian Federation.

We will remind you that Vasyl Malyuk summed up the work of the SBU during his tenure.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed laws on another extension of martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine.
