Zaporizhzhia NPP was on the verge of blackout for the second time in a week on November 21. This happened because of Russian shelling.
This is reported by the Ministry of Energy.
“As a result of enemy shelling, one of the two power lines of the occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP was cut off. Currently, the station is connected to the Ukrainian power system by only one power transmission line,” the message reads.
In case of disconnection of the last line at the Zaporizhzhia station, another complete blackout will take place.
“For the second time this week, there is a real threat of a blackout at the Zaporizhia NPP due to Russian shelling. A meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will be held in Vienna today, and we insist on the immediate full implementation of the resolution on the return of the occupied station to the control of Ukraine. This is the only way to guarantee the safe operation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP,” said Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko.
As noted in the Ministry of Energy, the energy workers will begin to restore full power to the station, which is the only way the security situation will allow.
The city of Energodar in the Zaporizhia region, where the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is located, was captured by Russian troops in February 2022. Together with him, the station was occupied. Since that time, the Russians have been violating the rules of operation of the nuclear facility. It is not the first time that it has been reported that the Russian Federation keeps equipment and manpower on the territory of the station, which it transfers to the front.
Earlier, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at its 68th general conference adopted a resolution on nuclear safety in Ukraine. She calls on Russia to immediately de-occupy the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP) and return it to the sovereign control of Ukraine.
Energy workers managed to restore power to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The 330 kV overhead line damaged by Russian shelling on October 1 is back in operation.
And recently, a water leak was discovered at one of the reactors of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP, and repair work is underway.
