Due to massive strikes on the energy infrastructure, supply disruptions and the strengthening of the dollar in Ukraine, a new wave of price increases for consumer basket goods is forming.
The destruction of roads, warehouses and production facilities increases the cost of products and slows down the recovery of business, which inevitably affects the price tags in stores.
Especially vulnerable to logistics failures are food products and product groups, where transportation costs make up a significant share of the price structure.
An additional blow to the logistics chain was delivered in October, when the warehouse facilities of pharmaceutical companies also came under fire.
The situation is complicated by the devaluation of the hryvnia — from the beginning of October to November 19, the dollar rate increased from UAH 41.1 to UAH 42 per unit, which automatically increases the price of imported goods and products with foreign components.
Analysts expect that in 2025, the national currency may weaken to a level of about UAH 43.2 per dollar, increasing pressure on the segment of household appliances, clothing, electronics and auto parts.
In parallel with this, the seasonal surge in demand for heating equipment, electrical appliances and winter goods forms an additional price impulse. The growth of business expenses on energy is another factor that pushes up the cost of a wide range of items on the shelves.
The retailer admits that wartime price increases are an “extremely sensitive issue”, but the constant operation of stores on generators makes it almost impossible to maintain previous prices for basic products.
We will remind you that the demand for lanterns, power banks and charging stations is breaking records due to the strikes of the Russian Federation.
Also, experts predict an increase in prices for chicken and eggs in December by up to 20%.
