Why the Trinity in Ukraine carries another name of green holidays
In Ukraine, the Trinity is often called green holidays because of the combination of Christian and ancient pagan traditions, in the center of which is the cult of nature, the renewal and honoring of green.

In pre -Christian times, these days, a period was blossomed. People honored the spirits of plants, forests and water, believing that the greens have healing and charm.

With the adoption of Christianity, this tradition has not disappeared, but has acquired new content – believers decorate temples and homes with branches of maple, oak, oak, smelling herbs and flowers, honoring the Holy Spirit as a life -giving power.

The greens have become a symbol of spiritual awakening, growth, peace and blessing coming from God. That is why the holiday was given the popular name – green holidays.

What cannot be done on the Trinity:

  • To work physically: it is considered a sin on this day to dig, mow, plant, wash, clean or engage in any hard house or agricultural work. This is a time for prayer, rest and spiritual purification.
  • Cutting or breaking trees, shrubs, especially willow: according to popular beliefs, in green branches and trees that day, the souls of the dead or the spirits of nature settle that day, so they cannot be worried.
  • Swimming in open reservoirs: in some regions, they believe that on green holidays, water is traveling with water that can “tighten” a person. Therefore, in ancient times, bathing in rivers and lakes.
