What will change at NMT 2026 for graduates

This year’s National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) will be largely similar to last year’s format, but with a few innovations that future entrants should be aware of. Among the changes, in particular, are additional points to the competitive one for successfully completing the “zero course”. This year’s National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) will be largely similar to last year’s format, but with a few innovations that future entrants should be aware of. Among the changes, in particular, are additional points to the competitive one for successfully completing the “zero course”. But the innovation concerns those specialties that classically have shortages, to which the state provides special support.

This is stated in the statement of the head of the Ukrainian Center for Evaluation of the Quality of Education, Tetyana Vakulenko, in an interview with LB.

According to Vakulenko, we are talking mainly about natural sciences and engineering. However, these points will not allow applicants who did not pass the test to participate in the competitive selection.

“Since the zero course will have an official status, a list of mandatory subjects, a defined duration of study, requirements for structure and content, it will differ from ordinary preparatory courses, which in fact have not disappeared,” she clarified.

And she added that at the “zero course” they should prepare for the NMT.

“Another important change: for creative majors, it is proposed to reduce the coefficient for all subjects of the NMT. Last year, it was 0.1, and in the new order, it is already proposed to be 0.075. That is, for the calculation of the competitive score, mandatory mathematics, the Ukrainian language, the history of Ukraine, and an optional subject will have less weight,” the head of the Center reported.

That is, according to her, for those people who enroll in creative specialties and overcome the threshold points from NMT, the creative competition will be decisive. And passing the test will mean that the person has fulfilled the basic condition.

How will the NMT take place in 2026?

  • The national multi-subject test in 2026 will take place according to last year’s model – within one day. There will also be additional testing sessions.

  • The multitest will consist of four items.

  • The list of NMT subjects remains unchanged. Entrants must complete the Ukrainian language, mathematics, history of Ukraine and one subject to choose from the following list: foreign language, biology, geography, physics, chemistry or Ukrainian literature. In 2026, there are no plans to change the NMT criteria either.

  • This year, graduates of schools from previous years will be able to enter universities based on the results of the national multi-subject test not only in 2026, but also based on the results of the NMT of 2023, 2024, 2025.
  • The main session of entrance exams to higher education institutions in the external examination format will take place from May 20 to June 25.

  • An additional session of the NMT will be held from July 17 to 24.

We will remind, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is planning create a zero course for applicants who have not passed the national multi-subject test.

Also, the number of 200-ball players at NMT in Ukraine is decreasing for the fourth year in a row
