On December 10, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the holy martyrs Mina, Hermogen and Evgraf, who suffered for the faith of Christ at the beginning of the 4th century in Alexandria during cruel persecutions. This holiday is dedicated to the courage, stability and loyalty of three men who did not give up their convictions.

“Glavkom” tells about it.

Mina was an influential man whom the emperor Maximinus sent to Alexandria to stop the riots among the Christians. However, Mina believed in Christ himself, seeing the steadfastness of Christians, and openly confessed his faith.

The emperor sent the nobleman Hermogenes to turn Mina away from Christianity. However, Hermogenes, impressed by Mina’s courage and miracles, also believed and was baptized.

Yevgraf, Mina’s secretary, came to support his friends, was not afraid of the authorities and openly declared himself a Christian. All three saints were subjected to severe torture and were martyred.

Folk omens for December 10:

  • If it is dry and clear outside – to long frosts.

  • If a strong wind blows from the north, then strong and long frosts will soon come.

  • The appearance of frost in the morning heralded a quick thaw.

This day was considered favorable for the treatment of eye diseases.

Prayer of the day: Oh, holy martyrs of Christ Myna, Hermogenes and Evgraph! You, who with such powerful courage endured torment for the faith! Pray to the Lord God to give us strength of spirit and perseverance in trials. Help us keep our faith pure and unshakable, free us from sorrows and diseases, and direct our feet to the path of salvation. Amen.

December is the month of waiting for Christmas, summing up the year and gratitude for the past. In the Orthodox calendar, this is the time when the Christmas fast continues and Christmas is approaching – one of the biggest Christian holidays.
