Ukraine has completed an important stage in the creation of a special tribunal on the crime of aggression by Russia. Work on this lasted more than 2.5 years – now the process goes to the final phase.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga during a speech in Lviv, where ministers and diplomats of 35 European countries gathered.
“The most important thing for us is to maintain the principle of inevitability of punishment. For all. Including for the so -called “three”. I mean President of the Russian Federation, Prime Minister of Russia, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. They are all international war criminals, ”Sibiga said.
He recalled that the purpose of creating this tribunal is to make appropriate sentences in the future. The tribunal will be in the Hague, in the capital of international law and responsibility.
“We are now actively working with the Council of Europe. Here I would like to emphasize the role of the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe is a central institution, the central element of this process. That is why today we accept a political document – the Lviv Declaration. And we give political support and start at the level of the Foreign Ministry of EU countries, ”Sibiga said.
According to him, in Luxembourg, formal-procedural adoption of this process under the chairmanship of the receiving country will take place.
“Here I am grateful to Ksavier Betel for his also involvement and acceleration of these processes, as well as I am grateful personally to the Council of Europe Secretary General. The next steps after the approval of the procedural formal in Luxembourg – will be to conclude an agreement between the Council of Europe and Ukraine, ”Sibiga said.
He specified that the conclusion of the agreement would put the final point in the process of creating a legal infrastructure to bring Russian criminals for a crime of aggression.
Recall that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the countries of Europe and democratic partners in the world to provide political support for the creation of a special tribunal on the crime of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
On Friday, May 9, a meeting of foreign ministers of the Coalition countries was held in Lviv to create a special tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
On May 9, foreign ministers and diplomats of European countries arrived in Lviv. In particular, the head of EU Callas Diplomacy and the New Foreign Minister of Germany Johann Vadeful came to Ukraine.
