President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the United States is currently only interested in the presidential elections in Ukraine.
The head of state said this during a conversation with journalists.
According to him, an official request from the USA regarding the holding of elections has already arrived, and he informed his partners that he is ready to participate in such a race.
At the same time, the head of state emphasized that the issue of parliamentary or local elections is not currently on the agenda at all.
Zelenskyi emphasized that the focus of the discussions with international partners is the upcoming election of the head of state, and not the renewal of other authorities.
Commenting on the possibility of participation of Ukrainians abroad in voting, Zelenskyi separately focused on the topic of using electronic tools. He reminded that since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, he has been consistently advocating the introduction of online voting mechanisms.
According to him, modern digital solutions, in particular through the “Diya” application, could significantly simplify citizens’ access to the election process, especially for those who are forced to live outside Ukraine.
At the same time, the president admitted that this idea needs to be carefully worked out, in particular in terms of security and protection of personal data.
Zelenskyi noted that complex changes in legislation are necessary to implement online voting. He emphasized that he has been raising this issue for a long time in communication with people’s deputies, but so far “we have not found a consensus.”
According to him, there are different approaches to the introduction of electronic voting in the parliament – some politicians support this idea, while others are afraid of possible risks of manipulation and cyber attacks.
The President emphasized that the introduction of such innovations should take place only after society and political elites reach an agreement on the rules and guarantees of transparency.
