Due to floods in Europe, water quality may deteriorate in Odesa and the region, because the Danube and Dniester rivers are polluted. Specialists will report further on the deterioration of the situation.
This was reported by the Odesa Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Due to the difficult weather conditions that have affected neighboring countries (Moldova, Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic), there is a threat of contamination of surface water bodies, in particular the rivers Dniester and Danube, as well as Lake Yalpug, which are the sources of drinking water for part of the population of the Odesa region “, the message says
The Center noted that in order to prevent the occurrence of infectious diseases and emergency situations, a number of measures related to monitoring the quality of drinking water supply and constant control over the state of health of the region’s population will be strengthened.
“In case of a complicated epidemic situation, additional information will be provided. The situation is under constant control,” specialists said.
At least 21 people have died as a result of severe flooding caused by storm Boris in Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Romania.
The fight against floods also continues in Poland. Local residents and emergency response teams joined forces to secure rivers in some areas and deliver water and food to evacuees in others. In particular, riverbanks in Wrocław are reinforced with sandbags. Authorities expect water to peak in the city on Thursday.
Earlier, we wrote that the flood on the Danube is moving downstream and has reached the territory of Hungary, and the country is intensively preparing for an increase in the water level.
We would also like to remind you that in Austria, four people have already died as a result of the floods; on Tuesday night, residents were evacuated from seven more settlements.
