Winter weather covered several regions of Ukraine at once. Snowfall, ice, and strong winds significantly complicated traffic, especially on intercity highways and mountainous areas. Temporary traffic restrictions were introduced in a number of regions.
This was reported by the State Service for Emergency Situations, regional military administrations and specialized services.
The State Emergency Service noted that units work around the clock and provide assistance to drivers in various regions. In particular, in the Rivne region, rescuers freed cars stuck in snowdrifts on the Kyiv-Chop highway.
Due to difficult weather conditions, the movement of freight transport was temporarily restricted on the highway M-06 Kyiv-Chop near the village of Turkovychi, on the rise of “Turkovetska Gora” in the direction of Rivne. According to Oleksandr Koval, the head of Rivne OVA, there were traffic jams in some areas, so drivers were urged to refrain from traveling from Rivne to Dubna. Currently, only passenger cars, route transport and emergency services can move through this section. Road equipment works continuously.
The difficult situation persists in the Carpathians. Ukrtransbezpeka announced the ban on the movement of freight transport on the section of the R-21 Dolyna-Khust highway on the Vyshkiv pass between the villages of Myslivka and Vyshkiv in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The cause was ice, heavy snowfall and strong wind causing drifting snow. The truck restriction is effective from 08:00 on January 8. Dozens of special equipment and workers were involved in clearing the track.
In Lviv and the region, road services and patrol police work in an intensified mode. Due to ice and snow, emergency situations are already recorded, including difficult climbs and road accidents. Drivers are urged to be as careful as possible and to follow a safe speed.
In the Ternopil region, due to the blizzard, all services have been put into enhanced work mode. According to OVA, hundreds of workers and dozens of pieces of equipment work on the roads. Wind gusts of up to 20 m/s, snow and blizzards in places are forecast in the region, the yellow level of danger has been announced.
The situation is difficult in the Chernivtsi region as well. According to OVA, the cyclone entered the region in the morning of January 8, after which the intensity of precipitation increased sharply. Dozens of special vehicles operate on state-owned roads, priority is provided for travel along the main logistics routes. An operational headquarters was deployed to coordinate the work.
Drivers across the country are being urged to refrain from long trips if possible and to take into account difficult weather conditions.
Residents of Paris took advantage of the unexpected snowfall and took skis and snowboards to the city streets. Such winter weather for the capital of France has been extremely rare in recent years and is usually characteristic only for the mountainous regions of the country.
