Annual leave in Ukraine can start on any calendar day, including Saturday, Sunday or public holiday.
As recalled in the South-Eastern interregional administration of State Labor, the law “On vacations” takes into account vacation days precisely in calendar, not working, days.
The State Labor Service noted that in accordance with Article 5 of the law “On vacations”, their duration is determined by this law, other laws and regulatory acts, as well as by the labor or collective agreement, and regardless of work regimes and schedules, it is calculated in calendar days, not working days.
“Therefore, the start date of the vacation may fall on a Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday (during martial law, the provision of Article 73 of the Labor Code of Ukraine, which defines holidays and non-working days, does not apply),” the message says.
Experts emphasized that the legislation does not prohibit granting leave that begins on a day off, or even when leave is granted exclusively on weekends.
