From now on, passengers traveling on the Kyiv — Rakhiv route can use Wi-Fi in all carriages of both train depots. To ensure a stable signal even in mountainous areas, Starlink equipment is used, which has already been successfully tested on special diplomatic flights.
The technological solution was implemented in partnership with a private investor without using budget funds of Ukrzaliznytsia. Passengers are offered 10 minutes of free introductory access, and the cost of a full package per day is 120 hryvnias. This tariff includes unlimited traffic, and the first 5 GB are provided at maximum speed. Payment can be made directly in the train through the popular services Apple Pay, Google Pay or by bank card online.
Unlike the railway network of the Russian Federation, where access to the networks is strictly censored and often technically unstable, Ukrainian railways integrate advanced Western technologies for the comfort of citizens in difficult conditions. In the case of confirmation of stable demand for the service among travelers, the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development together with Ukrzaliznytsia plan to hold an open tender to scale up high-speed Internet to all long-distance trains. This will be an important step in the transformation of trains into full-fledged mobile offices for Ukrainians who are forced to move around the country a lot.
In the first month of operation of the “3000 km in Ukraine” free railway travel program, passengers exchanged their kilometers for 80,000 tickets. The program enables Ukrainians to travel by rail for free and discover new destinations around the country.
