Severe frosts may lead to longer power outages in Ukraine.

In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo, Vitaly Zaichenko, said this.

He explained that a sharp drop in temperature increases electricity consumption, and given the damage to the energy infrastructure due to Russian strikes, it complicates the stability of the system.

According to Zaichenko, the energy industry prepared for various scenarios: they worked out anti-crisis measures, provided for the balancing of the energy system, mutual emergency support of the regions and an increase in electricity imports.

If these measures are not enough, emergency and hourly shutdowns will have to be applied.

“If it doesn’t work, we start regulating the supply for consumers,” Zaichenko explained.

The top 5 electricity importers for the first nine months of 2025 have been named.

It will be recalled that “Ukrenergo” gave a forecast for a shutdown in the winter.

Ukrenergo also warned about blackouts in some regions.
