A massive missile-drone strike carried out by Russian troops during the night and morning of January 20 resulted in significant damage to generation facilities, as well as electricity transmission and distribution networks throughout the country. Due to the complex nature of the damage, many regions have been forced to implement strict emergency consumption restrictions that operate outside the previously published schedules.
NEC Ukrenergo reports about this in Telegram.
The most difficult situation is currently observed in Kyiv and Kyiv region, where the duration of blackouts is the longest. Also, the critical situation remains in the front-line Kharkiv, Sumy and Donetsk regions, Odesa and Poltava regions.
Power engineers are working around the clock to eliminate the consequences of the attack and restore power to critical infrastructure. In Kyiv, more than 5,600 high-rise buildings were temporarily left without heating, and on the left bank of the capital there were significant interruptions with water supply. In the Kyiv region, 15 civilian objects were damaged during the shelling, and about 86,000 families remained without electricity. Experts urge citizens who have electricity to limit the use of energy-consuming appliances as much as possible, not to turn on powerful appliances immediately after the light appears, and to transfer all household processes, such as washing or ironing, to night time to reduce the load on the network.
In the Chernihiv region, a special schedule of emergency shutdowns is in effect, as a result of which 87% of consumers are currently without electricity.
We will remind, in the Rivne region, the morning attack left more than 10,000 households without electricity.
