Such prospects appeared after the first monthly auction for the distribution of capacity of interstate crossings on the borders of Ukraine with Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, reports “Ukrenergo”.

“Auctions started on December 15, 2025 on the JAO platform. The direct supply of electricity based on their results will begin in January. This is the first example in the history of the Ukrainian electricity market of holding joint monthly auctions for the distribution of capacity on the borders with EU countries,” the message reads.
According to the final results, 460 MW of available bandwidth was allocated at the border of Ukraine with Hungary at a marginal price of €13.4 per MW. On the border with Slovakia, 172 MW of available bandwidth was allocated with a ceiling price of €16 per MW. On the border with Romania, 172 MW were also allocated with a ceiling price of €10.82 per MW, and the total requested volume was 1,815 MW.
“In the conditions of massive Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, the holding of monthly auctions for the distribution of interstate capacity will increase the stability of the Ukrainian energy system. And in the long run, it will reduce the cost of electricity imported from neighboring European states,” Ukrenergo emphasizes.
Ukrenergo warned of blackouts on December 23, but they will not be everywhere.
The Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories, together with the Ministry of Energy, have started implementing a plan to increase electricity limits for the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Hourly power outages will continue to operate in Ukraine on Sunday, December 21. Restrictions will apply to most regions and will last throughout the day.
