The head of the Ministry of National Unity, Oleksiy Chernyshov, will soon present a list of the department’s tasks. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi during the meeting of the Congress of local and regional authorities on Tuesday, December 17.
The President noted that he had already had talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Austrian Chancellor Karl Neghammer regarding the ministry’s work and support for Ukrainians abroad, and would also discuss it with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Zelensky noted that the Ministry of National Unity should strengthen the connection between Ukraine and all Ukrainians abroad.
“This applies to all waves of migration of Ukrainians, as well as diasporas and communities that have increased due to this war,” added Zelenskyy.
People’s deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko noted that there are currently 7.7 million Ukrainians abroad, of which 5.3 million are in the EU. The People’s Deputy noted that these data from Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad were presented to the Verkhovna Rada in the report of the Temporary Special Commission on Protection of the Rights of IDPs.
On December 3, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to rename the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories into the Ministry of National Unity of Ukraine. Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Oleksiy Chernyshov to the position of Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister of National Unity of Ukraine.

In November, Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented an internal stability plan to the Council, which, in particular, provides for the creation of the Ministry of Unity of Ukrainians.
