The KIIS research showed that despite the war, most Ukrainians continue to feel happy. But compared to 2021, the level of happiness decreased.

This was stated by the CEO of the Kiev International Institute of Sociology Vladimir Paniotto in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

The transformation of the attitude to the happiness of Ukrainians took place against the background of the war. For many years, surveys have been conducted to determine how many people feel happy.

“But in 2022 they doubted. Can we ask if the respondents will scold our interviewers? And who will say that happy during the war? But they were asked, ”the expert said.

Despite all doubts, the results have shown that the level of happiness has not changed significantly. In December 2021, 71% of Ukrainians indicated their happiness, and in March 2022 this figure decreased to 68%.

Currently, the level of happiness is 58%, but the number of unhappy remained at 16%, which indicates the stable psychological state of the majority of the population.

The happiness of Ukrainians, as it turned out, can be imagined as a fraction where the numerator is a person’s achievement (material level, relationships, etc.), and the denominator – his expectations and aspirations. This balance determines the inner sense of happiness, even in difficult times.

We will remind that according to KIIS data most Ukrainian refugees do not plan to return to Ukraine after the war, in particular because of negative attitude on social networks and uncertainty of the situation at home. Only a third of millions of refugees intend to return.

In December 2024, President Vladimir Zelensky was trusted by 52% of Ukrainians, 39% were not trusted. The remaining 9% replied that they could not decide on their attitude.

The new figures of sociological surveys that demonstrate the fall in trust in President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky are quite relevant and relatively conservative. However, they still need to be dealt with, said the political scientist, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Ruslan Bortnik.

Well -known political scientist and political technologist Oleg Posternak also commented on a new sociological study by KIIS, which captures a serious loss of citizens’ confidence in President Vladimir Zelensky. According to the expert, this phenomenon has four reasons.
