Today, on June 29, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul – one of the most devoted disciples of Christ. This holiday is celebrated in the new church style and is one of the main summer holidays.

The Apostle Peter, initially called Simon, was a fisherman before he became a disciple of Jesus. It was he who was the first to recognize Christ with the Son of God and headed the first Christian community.

He was executed under the reign of Emperor Nero – Peter himself asked to crucify him upside down, considering himself unworthy to die as the Lord.

The Apostle Paul, known in the past as Savl, came from a Roman noble family. At first he pursued Christians, but after a personal meeting with the Risen Christ, he accepted faith and became one of the most active preachers.

Pavel founded many Christian communities and wrote messages that entered the New Testament.

In addition to Peter and Paul, this day is honored by St. Gregory, Metropolitan of Iraqli, and the Casper icon of the Mother of God, which is considered a defender of Odessa and all the Marine and Air Fleet.

On this day, believers traditionally visit the church, but are allowed to pray at home – the main thing is that the prayer is sincere. The apostles are asked for healing, well -being, good harvest and learning success.

The apostle Peter is considered the patron saint of fishermen, and Paul is an assistant in his studies and a defender from the elements. Particular attention is paid to the Kasper icon of the Mother of God, who pray for healing and victory over the enemy.

The holiday of Peter and Paul completes the Kupala cycle and symbolizes the flowering of natural forces. Before the holiday, it is customary to clean the home, prepare treats and collect at the table of relatives. It is believed that a rich table promises prosperity in the year, and the main course of the day should be fish.

On this day, hard physical work cannot be done – all important cases should be completed the day before. It is also forbidden to hold weddings and weddings.

From folk prohibitions on Peter and Paul are allocated as follows: it is impossible to give or take money, sew, knit, make big purchases. They are categorically not advised to swim – according to beliefs, it can lead to trouble.

It is also not recommended to drink strong alcohol, as it can be addicted.

Recall that on June 27, fishing Day is noted in the world. The National Anthem Day will be held in Canada and the US National Orange Day will be held.
