Ukrainian Security Service Arrests Suspected Terrorist Linked to Double Explosion in Bucha

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the arrest of an individual suspected of carrying out a double bombing in Bucha on March 23. The suspect, a 21-year-old local resident, was apprehended shortly after the attacks, which occurred early in the morning.

According to reports, police received notifications of an explosion on one of the city’s streets just before 6 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services encountered a second explosion. The SBU and the National Police acted swiftly, detaining the suspect shortly thereafter.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had been recruited by Russian intelligence operatives via the internet. He was allegedly instructed to create two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which he equipped with mobile phones for remote detonation. The explosives were concealed in strategic locations: one was placed under a bench near the entrance of a residential building, while the other was hidden near a waste container.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 258, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to acts of terrorism. In the aftermath of the explosions, two police officers sustained injuries during the second blast, as confirmed by Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration.

The SBU has arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of executing a double bombing in Bucha, following a swift police response. The suspect, allegedly recruited online by Russian operatives, faces charges under Ukraine's terrorism laws.
