Ukrainian Railways Resumes Normal Operations Following Repairs

As of the evening of March 7, Ukrainian Railways announced the completion of repair work, leading to the cancellation of detours and a gradual return to regular train schedules.

The company indicated that this development would make travel times more predictable for passengers. However, some trains may still experience delays due to previous disruptions in service.

Specifically, certain trains are guaranteed to depart later than scheduled due to delays from earlier services. It is important to note that this does not imply that all intermediate stops will experience the same delays.

Among the affected services are:

  • Train No. 19/20 Kyiv – Chełm: approximately 3 hours delay;
  • Train No. 67/68 Kyiv – Warsaw: approximately 3 hours delay;
  • Train No. 105/106 Kyiv – Odesa: approximately 2 hours delay;
  • Train No. 51/52 Kyiv – Przemyśl: approximately 2 hours delay;
  • Train No. 93/94 Chełm – Kharkiv: approximately 3 hours delay;
  • Train No. 97/98 Kovel – Kyiv: approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes delay;
  • Train No. 113/114 Uzhhorod – Kharkiv: approximately 4 hours delay.

The railway operator also reminded passengers that trains may temporarily stop for safety reasons if threats arise near the route. In such cases, monitoring teams may decide to evacuate passengers.

To optimize operations, Ukrainian Railways has temporarily altered the organization of certain routes in the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and mountainous areas. Instead of one long route, two shorter services with transfers are now in place.

This adjustment has allowed for quicker turnaround of train cars and reduced delays. For instance, train No. 5/6, which previously ran from Zaporizhzhia to Yasinia, is now limited to Ivano-Frankivsk, with a separate shuttle service introduced between Ivano-Frankivsk and Yasinia. This change has reduced the return delay from eight hours to about one hour and 43 minutes.

Additionally, the company noted that international services are coordinated with foreign partners to facilitate smooth transfers for passengers, even in the event of delays.

Earlier on March 7, Russian forces conducted a combined attack on Ukraine, utilizing drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles across multiple cities simultaneously. By morning, Ukrainian Railways reported that some trains had to change routes and adjust schedules due to damage to railway infrastructure.

Ukrainian Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba later confirmed that railway substations and bridges had been damaged during the strikes.

Ukrainian Railways has resumed normal operations following repairs after recent attacks. While some delays are still expected, adjustments have been made to improve travel times and safety.
