Ukrainian Military Deploys Ground Robotics in Combat Operations

Ukrainian forces have showcased a video demonstrating the effectiveness of their ground robotic complex (GRC) in combat, successfully neutralizing two Russian soldiers. This advancement highlights the increasing role of robotics in modern warfare.

The GRC is designed to operate in areas that are too dangerous for conventional infantry, proving to be a highly effective tool on the battlefield. A representative from the brigade emphasized that each operation conducted by these robots not only preserves the lives of Ukrainian soldiers but also contributes to the effort to reclaim territory from enemy forces.

Lieutenant Roman, commander of the GRC unit within the 32nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, detailed a recent mission where the robotic system, armed with a machine gun, was deployed to ambush two Russian infantrymen attempting to approach Ukrainian positions. “It was a tense moment: fog, dusk. The priority was to avoid friendly fire, as adjacent units were nearby. However, we quickly confirmed it was the enemy based on their specific route and uniform color. The turret operated calmly and accurately,” he explained.

According to the officer, the nature of warfare is evolving with the increasing use of ground drones. He noted that while the use of FPV drones was surprising just a year ago, ground robotics are now becoming more prevalent.

“Our principle in the 32nd Steel Brigade is clear: robots should do the fighting. They venture into areas that are too hazardous for humans,” Roman stated. He also mentioned that the deployment of GRCs is gaining momentum, with active integration of advanced technologies.

“Today we set ambushes with robots, and tomorrow we may use them for assaults. This is no longer science fiction; it is our reality near Pokrovsk,” he concluded.

The video also featured Ukrainian paratroopers conducting a complex and risky evacuation of injured comrades using the ground robotic complex in Donetsk. Overall, robotic systems are becoming critically important on the modern battlefield, as vehicles are increasingly vulnerable to drones and traditional military equipment. Ground robots offer a chance to save lives—both of the wounded and the rescuers.

This sentiment was echoed by General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who stated that the widespread use of drones has significantly expanded the so-called “kill zone” on the front lines, making ground robotic systems a key element in the warfare of the future.

Ukrainian forces are increasingly utilizing ground robotic systems in combat, successfully neutralizing enemy soldiers and enhancing battlefield safety. This shift reflects the evolving landscape of modern warfare, with robotics playing a crucial role in preserving lives and executing complex operations.
