Ukrainian Forces Target North Korean Artillery in Luhansk Region

Ukrainian drone operators successfully struck a North Korean self-propelled artillery unit in the Luhansk region, according to military reports. The 429th Brigade, known as “Achilles,” identified the rare target, a “Koksan” artillery system, while it was firing towards Kupiansk.

The statement from the drone forces indicated that they detected a thermal signature from the artillery’s recent firing. Following the confirmation of coordinates, the brigade’s pilots executed three strikes on the target.

The M-1978 “Koksan” artillery system is recognized as one of North Korea’s most long-range artillery pieces, equipped with a 170-mm gun capable of striking targets up to 60 kilometers away.

The Russian military has received these artillery units from North Korea as part of military assistance. This acquisition is seen as a means for Russia to bolster its artillery capabilities amid significant losses of military equipment in Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces have targeted a North Korean artillery system in Luhansk, marking a significant operational success. The M-1978 "Koksan" artillery, now in Russian hands, underscores the ongoing military support between North Korea and Russia.
