Ukrainian military units successfully thwarted a significant offensive by Russian forces in the eastern region, where over 500 infantry soldiers and 28 armored vehicles were deployed. The attack involved two Russian armies, the 1st Tank and the 20th General Army, attempting to break through across seven fronts.
Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky reported that the Russians had been preparing for this assault for approximately 1.5 months. He noted that Russian forces intensified their airstrikes on Ukrainian supply routes across the Oskil River, aiming to disrupt logistics and establish their own pontoon crossings while clearing paths for their advance.
In response, Ukrainian forces had developed defensive strategies tailored to various sectors, with each brigade implementing its own plan to counter the attack. Coordination among the corps allowed them to effectively repel the offensive on all fronts.
During four hours of intense combat, Ukrainian troops inflicted significant losses on the Russian side, destroying:
- 84 units of motor vehicles
- 11 infantry fighting vehicles (BMP) and armored personnel carriers (BTR)
- 3 tanks
- 1 thermobaric system, TOC “Sontsepek”
- 5 artillery pieces
- over 160 drones
The total personnel losses for the Russian army within a day reached 405 soldiers, with 288 confirmed as killed and the remainder wounded. Despite the scale of the assault, Russian forces failed to capture any settlements or positions, and operations to eliminate remaining enemy combatants in the targeted area are ongoing.
