Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that following a meeting in the United States, his team will continue discussions with American representatives regarding the resolution of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
During a press briefing, Zelensky confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation had met with U.S. officials, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. He emphasized the importance of ongoing diplomacy, stating, “It is crucial for all of us in the world that diplomacy continues as we strive to end this war—the war that Russia has waged against Ukraine. War benefits no one. Our teams will continue their discussions tomorrow.”
Zelensky underscored the necessity of gauging Russia’s genuine readiness to conclude the conflict and whether it is prepared to do so in a fair and honorable manner. He noted the heightened geopolitical tensions resulting from the situation in Iran, which complicates the landscape further. “There will be a detailed report from the team,” he concluded.
In the context of peace negotiations, it is worth noting that Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia have conducted three rounds of talks since the beginning of the year. A fourth round was anticipated for early March but was postponed due to escalating conflicts in the Middle East.
Recently, both Ukraine and Russia confirmed that negotiations are currently on hold. While neither side has formally abandoned the talks, meetings have been postponed at the request of the U.S.
As the parties appear to be moving towards the resumption of the peace process, the Ukrainian delegation arrived in Miami on Saturday. Zelensky indicated that the upcoming discussions would focus on three key issues: the scheduling of a new trilateral meeting, ongoing communications with the U.S. amid the suspension of certain sanctions against Russian energy, and the continuation of work on documents aimed at concluding the war, ensuring security guarantees, and facilitating Ukraine’s recovery.
