Ukraine is currently implementing reforms within its Territorial Defense Forces (TDF), a process that began six months ago. These changes include the introduction of new units within the brigades.
According to official statements, all TDF brigades will transition to a standardized structure that incorporates enhanced drone capabilities. New units will include large-caliber artillery, anti-aircraft missile units, and ground robotic complexes.
The reforms aim to bolster the combat capabilities of the TDF brigades, which are expected to play a crucial role in defensive operations.
The General Staff emphasized, “Our goal is to enhance the combat readiness of the Territorial Defense Forces while simultaneously reducing casualty rates.”
In the context of Western support for Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte recently highlighted that securing air defense systems and artillery remains a priority for Ukraine to protect critical infrastructure from Russian attacks.
Rutte also provided details on the scale of support from the United States, which plans to deliver approximately $625 million in arms to Ukraine as part of upcoming aid packages.
Meanwhile, political discussions continue in the United States regarding the format of this support. President Donald Trump reiterated his stance that Ukraine should receive assistance in the form of loans.
Additionally, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski noted that a large-scale military operation in the Middle East requires substantial quantities of cruise missiles and air defense systems. He indicated that this situation directly limits the ability of partners to assist the Ukrainian Armed Forces, adding that the conflict is shifting the focus of international politics.
Ukraine is reforming its Territorial Defense Forces to enhance combat capabilities and reduce casualties, with new units being established. Meanwhile, Western support continues to evolve amid ongoing political discussions in the U.S.
