Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized the necessity of a peace agreement with Russia, regardless of personal sentiments toward President Vladimir Putin. He stated that achieving peace is essential for halting the violence and ensuring a stable future for Ukraine.
In his remarks, Zelensky noted that peace should be viewed as a legal framework aimed at ending bloodshed, rather than a reflection of personal feelings. He remarked, “Nobody is suggesting we should become friends. He is a killer. He attempted to occupy us and has caused numerous deaths. We have responded, and he has lost many troops. This perspective is entirely understandable. But we need peace. Peace is not an emotional issue; hatred is about emotions.”
Recently, former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that Zelensky himself is obstructing the path to a peace agreement, claiming that Ukraine is rapidly losing leverage in negotiations while asserting that the Kremlin is open to dialogue. In response, Zelensky urged the United States to apply more pressure on Russia rather than on Ukraine, highlighting the need for security guarantees that would form the basis of any peace deal.
Additionally, Ukraine and Turkey are preparing for a new round of trilateral negotiations with the United States and Russia. A meeting initially scheduled for this week was postponed at the request of the United States.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated the importance of pursuing peace with Russia, framing it as a legal necessity to end violence rather than a matter of personal feelings. Amidst ongoing tensions, he called for increased U.S. pressure on Russia and highlighted the need for security guarantees in any potential agreement.
