The European Union will allocate 4.2 billion euros to Ukraine by the end of the year, and in 2025 it will transfer 1.5 billion euros per month from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation.
The President of the European Council, Antonio Kosta, announced this at a press conference.
“Already this month, the European Union will provide Ukraine with an additional 4.2 billion euros to support the Ukrainian budget. In addition to this, starting next month, we will provide another full year of 1.5 billion euros of aid each month. We receive these funds from the use of frozen Russian assets, and they can also be used for military purposes,” said Koshta.
The President of the European Council noted that the EU will continue to put pressure on the Russian economy and is already working on the 15th package of sanctions to reduce Russia’s ability to wage war against Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a meeting with the head of the European Council Antonio Kosta in Kyiv, called on the EU to support sanctions against the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders announced at the plenary session of the European Parliament that the European Union will direct 1 billion euros from frozen assets of Russia to the development of the Ukrainian defense industry.
Of the $50 billion that is planned to be raised at the expense of immobilized Russian assets, the first part of $22 billion will go to Ukraine in 2025.
